A hefty dose of ice skating pleasure

The Viennese Ice Dream is not just a sports venue, but rather a huge icescape. On some 8,500 m2 of ice, beginners and experts alike will find diverse possibilities for practising this beloved winter sport.

Four large ice skating rinks, ranging from 420 m² to 1,850 m², offer plenty of space for graceful curves and extensive laps on the ice. The Traumpfade (Dream Paths) are ideal for those who prefer to glide at a gentler pace. These paths, totalling 500 m in length, pass through the middle of the romantically lit Rathauspark and connect the large ice rinks to one another.

Skates Rental

Over 2,000 pairs of pre-warmed skates are available to hire:

Children: sizes 23–36

Women: up to size 44

Men: up to size 52

For the little ones, there are adjustable double blades/sliding skates (sizes 21–25) and children’s helmets (while stocks last). To borrow double blades and helmets, you will need a free ticket this year, which is available at the ticket offices on site.

A deposit of €50 or the voluntary surrender of an ID card is required for all rental items – ice skates, locker keys, double blades or helmets. The deposit or ID card will be returned in full after all rented items have been returned.

Tickets for ice skates, locker keys or sharpening services are available at the ticket offices and vending machines on site or online at a 10% discount.

Lockers

Store your shoes, bags or rucksacks safely in our lockers (38×31×42 cm) and enjoy your skating experience without any worries. Use costs €3.20 on site or €2.90 online. You can obtain the key from the skate hire counter in exchange for a ticket and a €50 deposit; a replacement fee of €20 will be charged if the key is lost. Please note: the lockers are only available during opening hours and close 15 minutes after the ice rinks close.

Sharpening service

Blunt skate blades can really spoil the fun of ice skating. Handy: there’s a sharpening service right there on site which – depending on how busy it is – will have your blades sharp again in no time.

Please note that the lockers and sharpening service are only available with a valid ticket. You can get this from the online shop or at the ticket office on site.

Free ice skating for schools

The City of Vienna invites all Viennese kindergartens, after-school care centres and primary and secondary schools in the school district, accompanied by supervisory staff (teachers, kindergarten teachers, childminders with ID), to enjoy free ice skating on school days!

The school promotion is valid from Monday to Friday (only on school days, i.e. not on Saturdays, Sundays or public holidays) from 14 November to 8 March 2026 from 10:00 to 16:00. As part of the school promotion, ice skates can be hired. Skates/double blades (shoe sizes 21 to 25) and helmets for children are available free of charge while stocks last. Around 45,000 children take advantage of this promotion every year. As part of the school promotion, ice skates can be hired at a reduced price of €5.

No advance registration is required. Tickets are available directly at the ticket office; all you need to do is fill out a confirmation of receipt.

Please ensure that there are enough accompanying adults and that all participating children and young people are equipped as required. We particularly recommend sturdy gloves and helmets.

Ice skating fun for children

There are also various offers for children who are just learning to ice skate. Children can learn to ice skate free of charge on a 140 m² ice rink. This is located in a quiet corner of the southern town hall park, where they can skate undisturbed.

Helmets and adjustable double blades (sizes 21 to 25) can be borrowed free of charge from the rental shop directly at the children’s ice rink. Parents can accompany their children on the ice in their shoes.

Various skating aids such as penguins, polar bears and whales are available at the edge of the rink to help children learn to skate as easily as possible.

The ice rink and rental service are open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
